How many of you use Mac here? I don’t. Not because I have a choice but because I’m hesitant. Fans swear by the Mac and I’ve seen forums getting ugly in the discussion between Mac fans and Vista users. I don’t get it - and so they do say - you’d only know if you use one. Honestly what is in a Mac?

I have no clue. No I’m not naive but I still have to overcome the learning curve involved. The reason I ask is that recently one of my friends bought Vista ultimate and not being quiet tech savvy requested me to install it for him. Vista Ultimate with its Aero theme and all its bells and whistles could put the Mac to shame. But then Vista is not all that stable too. The applications crash and in fact its only a matter of time before your machine goes dead as a doornail. Its irksome UAC prompt bugs people every moment they dare to click.

But then it works. From freeware to shareware to adware and spyware… its all out there available on the net. Applications are built to run on windows. You have the office suite (and a choice at that), media players out in the open, CD DVD burners and what have you. What is the choice a Mac user has? Does it even work? Seriously I’m curious seeing Guy Kawasaki going around with his MacBook running short of a DVD even. What gives?

It shouldn’t sound as bad as it usually does. I believe one thing I was never comfortable with was the domain name. Thus I took my time and came out with a domain that would be memorable and would hold its identity; thus Binary Turf. You may experience a few issues searching the new site as Google is still trying to index it. However it shouldn’t be too long. All the posts have been migrated except the comments.

I suggest you bookmark this site and continue to follow up all the upcoming posts. In case you need any kind of information, just drop me a mail at varun21@gmail.com.

Most of the visitors to my site are fans of Firefox or ColorfulTabs. I like to take a minute away from my regular work to thank you all for your motivation. It simply feels great to know that there are thousands of visitors visiting this site everyday. And thousands of people installing ColorfulTabs everyday.

Also while I’m developing the next version of ColorfulTabs for you to use with Firefox 3, I want you to get notified as and when it is ready for testing. Many fans frequent this site several times a day to keep an eye. For those of you who like to be notified in your inboxes about any updates here you can subscribe by email. For those who have a feed reader you can subscribe by RSS. That way we’ll make sure that you get notified about any updates by your feed reader. One good feedreader is Google Reader which runs in Firefox and allows you to sign in with your Google account. Firefox though has an inbuilt feedreader and you coould use it too. Thanks for subscribing.

As I mentioned yesterday, TheStasis is observing the CSS Naked Day. What you see today is the bare body of the site and all we did was take out one line of code that attaches the stylesheet to the site.

In fact today the site is as simple as it can get. This is how the search engine sees the site and tries to make an Read the full article »

I’m doing it. Jeez, did I just say that? Binary Turf is going to strip all the CSS on April 9, 2008 to participate in the CSS Naked Day contest. The idea is to promote Web Standards. This includes stresing on the proper use of (x)html, markup semantics, site hierarchy structure, and more.

Binary Turf is now proudly powered by WordPress. It took me the entire weekend to figure out the technical stuff. Especially importing the Drupal database into the Wordpress database. That involved learning some basic SQL (which is a language that databases talk in).

While every webmaster desires impressive themes, I for a change have taken a U turn and rebuilt a theme for Binary Turf from scratch. Binary Turf is visited by people of all ages and thus the visibility should be closest to the natural. That put together with the basics of web designhelped me put together this theme.

I received some wonderful feedback about the old dark theme that we used to have here and it was very positive. While the new theme rests on the basicwebdesign and usibility principles I’d like to have any feedback and suggestions for improvement. If you are reading this in your favourite feedreader, take a look at the site <a title=”binaryturf” href=”http://www.binaryturf.com”>here</a>. Enjoy!

<a href=”http://music.thestasis.com”><img src=”/files/pictures/music.png” alt=”The Essence of Indian Music” /></a>

It is a great and unique feeling to see a long cherished dream realise. I pursue deep and immense interest in music. While I always wanted to learn music and be a singer, I somehow ended up creating Firefox extensions and doing website designs*. It is with great pleasure that I announce the unveiling of <a href=”http://music.binaryturf.com”>The Essence of Indian Music</a> where I’ll be reviewing some everlasting melodies in the times to come.

Your feedback is invited and very much appreciated. In case you have any requests do not hesitate to contact me.
